TEARS OF THINGS 2017
Exchange Gallery Penzance
Tears of Things was one year project that invited artists, writers, academics, students, museums and member of the community to contribute by writing a short narrative and submitting a photograph of a thing that holds memory, story or attachment in their lives. The collection was gathered by attending events at The Exchange Gallery, Penzance and asking community to add to the collection of stories. We also worked with Penlee Gallery and Museum’s broken objects in their archive. The responses ranged from the deeply personal relationship with an object belonging to the dead to writing triggered by a broken object from a museum collection. Working in the archive of Penlee Gallery and Museum in Penzance gave us an opportunity to explore the forgotten object hidden in the archival boxes, broken and lost. This inspired a collection of short writing in relation to the museum collection. The project was curated by Mercedes Kemp and Lucy Willow and had over 100 contributions.
